    Student Applications Report: PowerSchool
    {JayParker} by Jay Parker
PowerSchool is coming! We are excited about introducing a new student information system that will replace NC Wise by July 1, 2013. This application will provide each school more local control with custom settings to meet instructional needs and flexibility to extract data directly from PowerSchool to support data driven decisions. This transition not only includes the student information portal but teacher and parent modules that are compatible with Apple and Microsoft operating systems. While this application is new to CMS it is used in all 50 statesand over 65 countries.
PowerSchool provides the full range of features needed by administrators at the district and school level in addition to portals for teachers, parents, students and administrators.

Update: Data on CMS at Gaggle
by Jake Standish (watch itWeekly 305 to learn more about Gaggle!)
    What is Gaggle
CMS started using Gaggle this fall. More than half of the schools have Gaggle accounts and the rest can request accounts here. Gaggle is a communication and cloud file storage solution. It provides email, discussion boards, video streaming of filtered YouTube video, and a place to save any files so students and teachers can access them from any device connected to the Internet. Each gaggle account has over 7 Gigabytes of storage. In addition to this, Gaggle provides filtering of all content that students send or receive. Beyond a program scanning for words and phrases, there are human beings monitoring any content flagged inappropriate. Learn more about Gaggle’s Human Monitoring System here.
    Relevant Data
The following graphs illustrate the usage of specific aspects of Gaggle over the last four months (September through December 2012). This is a great start, however we look forward to continued growth and utilization of Gaggle for the continued practice of digital skills that will last their lifetime.
What is Gaggle-Some Data-Emails Sent and Received:Emails Sent and Received:
{Gaggle Email Fa2012_s.jpg} By it’s very nature of communication, email is a form of informative or argumentative text. Anyone who has put forth the amount of effort composing a quality email knows that students composing emails in Gaggle can only help to address the Common Core ELA standards.
